Desperately needing a fair representation and reality check on patient -physician relationships.
Physicians are time and time again depicted as perpetrators in anglo saxon countries – patients by default victims .
Moving from a germanic country to Canada I never imagined how patients’ attitude towards physicians would be barr of basic courtesy, common social boundaries and a degree of entitlement that I have never seen in any other country.
I agree that low literacy is much more common than we all think. And I am glad Dr Armson reminded us of this.
Physicians in Canada are leaving their careers in drones, or not even getting started by avoiding commitment to full-scope family practice…and the reason is one we do not lightly declare …patients’ attitudes.
The vast majority of physicians are not playing GODS , not authoritarian…
pressured by seeing a volume of patients over sorting increasingly complex medical conditions in an increasingly frail population in a reasonable manner of time….
